AI-Powered Interview Preparation Guide

AI-Powered Interview Preparation Guide

preparAItor gives you two complementary ways to prepare for a real interview: a static Interview Q&A PDF document generated alongside your application documents, and a dedicated Interview Practice & Coaching live chat that simulates a full interview with an AI and returns a structured performance report afterwards. This guide walks you through both channels, how they differ, and how to use them together.

Before You Start

Prerequisites

  • An uploaded, parsed CV (Upload your CV)
  • A target job offer saved in the app
  • Access to the Interview Practice page inside preparAItor (linked from the main navigation in the app)

The Two Preparation Channels at a Glance

Interview Q&A PDF Document

  • Format: Static PDF document
  • Delivered via: Normal document generation
  • Availability: Pro and Premium only
  • Output: 20 questions with suggested answers, plus the download formats your plan allows

Interview Practice & Coaching Live Chat

  • Format: Real-time chat conversation
  • Delivered via: Dedicated Interview Practice page
  • Availability: Every account gets 2 free lifetime sessions (1 Coaching + 1 Practice). Monthly paid access is on Pro and Premium; Free and Starter users can still use their two lifetime sessions but have no monthly allowance beyond that.
  • Output: Full mock session + AI-scored summary

Channel A: The Interview Q&A PDF Document

What It Is

Whenever you run a document generation, Pro and Premium users also receive an Interview Q&A PDF document in their output. Free and Starter users do not get this PDF document; their output is limited to the documents included in their tier.

What's Inside

The PDF document always contains exactly 20 questions tailored to both the target job and your CV. For each question you get:

  • A suggested answer written in your voice, based on real CV evidence
  • 2 to 4 key points to anchor your response
  • A category label so you can see what kind of question it is

Question Categories

The AI mixes different kinds of questions across your 20-question set, so you're prepared for whatever comes up. Expect a blend of:

  • Motivation — why this role, why this company
  • Company knowledge — what you know about the employer
  • Experience — past roles, projects, and accomplishments
  • Technical — skills and knowledge specific to the job
  • Behavioral — how you've handled situations before
  • Situational — how you'd approach hypothetical scenarios
  • Gap questions — addressing anything missing or unusual in your CV
  • Closing — your own questions for the interviewer

The exact mix depends on the job and your CV. There's no fixed quota for each category — the AI weights them based on what's most relevant for your specific application.

How to Use the PDF Document

  1. Read through all 20 questions once, end to end.
  2. Highlight the questions you find hardest.
  3. Rewrite a few suggested answers in your own words so they sound natural when spoken.
  4. Bring the PDF document (or its key points) into the Interview Practice chat to drill the weak spots.

Channel B: Interview Practice & Coaching Live Chat

This is the main preparation tool inside preparAItor. It's a dedicated feature that runs a full mock interview in a chat UI, then scores your performance with a detailed AI summary.

Session Modes

When you start a session you pick one of two modes, depending on what you're trying to get out of it:

  • Practice — a realistic mock interview. The AI plays the interviewer and stays in character from start to finish. No mid-session coaching — just real interview pressure and an honest score afterwards. Pick this when you feel ready and want to simulate the real thing as closely as possible.
  • Coaching — an advisory preparation session. The AI plays a career coach rather than an interviewer: it reframes questions, surfaces weak spots as you go, and offers suggestions in real time so you can build stronger answers before the real thing. Pick this when you want guidance during the session, not just a score at the end.

A common path is: start with Coaching to learn, then move to Practice to test yourself.

Starting a Session: The Setup Wizard

The wizard walks you through the setup in a few steps:

  1. CV — pick which parsed CV the session should be based on.
  2. Job — pick the target parsed job offer.
  3. Config — choose your mode (Practice or Coaching), difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard), question focus (Behavioral, Technical, or Mixed), and session language (English, German, French, or Italian).

There is no manual previous-session picker in the current start wizard. Continuity happens after a session ends: you review the summary, then continue that same session with a targeted follow-up if you want to drill the weak areas it identified.

The Pre-Brief

Before the chat starts, preparAItor shows a Pre-Brief screen summarizing the role, what the AI will focus on, and what to expect. Review it, then start the session when you're ready. The 150-credit session cost is reserved and confirmed when the session opens (as soon as the AI's opening question is ready); once you're into the session it's committed.

The Live Chat Itself

  • The session runs as a real-time chat for 20 exchanges (one question from the AI, one answer from you per exchange). Most sessions take 25–40 minutes.
  • Input is text only — you type your answers, each between 3 and 2,000 characters. There is no microphone, no voice input, no audio recording, and no video recording anywhere in the flow.
  • The conversation moves through four phases automatically: openingcorepre-closing (×2) → closing. The closing turn is a short, warm sendoff — the detailed scorecard is generated separately.
  • In Coaching mode the AI offers guidance and reframes as you go; in Practice mode it stays in character and saves feedback for the summary.
  • You can end a session manually at any point. If you stop before using all 20 exchanges, you can resume it later from the Session History at no extra cost.

The Session Summary

Once the session ends, the AI generates a detailed Session Summary, including:

  • Overall Score (0–100)
  • Performance Level — Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Expert
  • Skills Radar across five dimensions:
    • Technical Competence
    • Communication
    • Confidence
    • Problem Solving
    • Behavioral
  • Top 3 Strengths identified from your actual answers
  • Top 3 Weaknesses with specific, concrete feedback
  • Per-Question Breakdown — score, category, and assessment for each question
  • Coaching Recommendations — up to 5 specific improvements
  • Next Session Focus — suggested targets for the next session; link to them next time and the AI builds on exactly those weak areas

If a session ends with fewer than five exchanges, the structured summary is skipped and only the conversation is kept.

Session History

Every session is saved in your Session History list. From there you can:

  • Resume an incomplete session to finish unused exchanges for free
  • Extend a completed session with a paid follow-up round (another 20 exchanges, another 150 credits) — available on Pro and Premium, with the extension entitlement checked when you continue the session
  • Delete a session you no longer want (permanent; does not refund the 150 credits)
  • Export to PDF to keep a record of the questions, your answers, and the AI summary

Privacy and Retention

  • Your conversation messages, the CV snapshot used for context, the rolling conversation summary, and the end-of-session performance report are all encrypted at rest.
  • The job description and public company enrichment stored with the session are kept as plaintext — they're already public information.
  • Sessions have their own retention setting — 30, 90, or 180 days (default 90) — configurable in Settings > Preferences > Interview Retention. Interview retention uses a sliding window anchored on the session's latest message, so active sessions keep moving their expiry forward. The retention choice is still cached on the session when it is created, so changing the setting later applies only to new sessions. A linked paid follow-up also extends the immediate previous session's expiry so the chain stays alive together.

Tier Limits and Free Trials

Interview Practice sessions are paid from your unified credit pool, not from a separate quota.

Lifetime Free Trials (every user, every tier)

Every account — including Free — gets:

  • 1 free Coaching session for life
  • 1 free Practice session for life

Use these to try the feature before committing. Lifetime free sessions produce the same full performance summary as paid sessions. If you later try to continue one with a paid follow-up round, the extension entitlement is checked against your current plan at that moment.

Credit Cost and Plan Availability

Each interview session (20 exchanges) costs 150 credits from your unified credit pool. On Pro and Premium, you can also run a paid follow-up round on a completed session — another 20 exchanges for another 150 credits — that targets the weak areas identified in the previous summary.

Monthly Interview Practice access is included on Pro (2000 credits/month) and Premium (4000 credits/month) plans. Free and Starter plans do not include monthly Interview Practice beyond the 2 lifetime free sessions.

A Suggested Preparation Workflow

  1. Generate your documents for the target job. On Pro/Premium, read through the Interview Q&A PDF document to see the shape of the questions you'll face.
  2. Start with Coaching. Run a Coaching session so the AI can guide you on what great answers look like for this specific role.
  3. Review the Session Summary. Look at your skills radar, weaknesses, and Next Session Focus — these are the exact areas to drill.
  4. Move to Practice. Run a Practice session for a realistic mock. After you finish, use the targeted follow-up path when you want the AI to keep drilling the weak areas from the summary.
  5. Extend if needed. On Pro/Premium, extend the completed Practice session with a paid follow-up round focused on what still isn't landing.
  6. Export and review. Export the session PDF document, re-read your weakest answers, and iterate.

Good to Know

  • Sessions are text-only, so you can practice quietly from anywhere — no microphone or camera needed.
  • Practice mode delivers feedback post-session by design; Coaching mode gives guidance along the way.
  • You can resume an interrupted session from the Session History list without losing progress — and without paying again.
  • Optional 1–5 star rating at the end lets you tell us what worked and what didn't.
  • The PDF document export of a finished session is a great artifact to bring into a human mock interview or coaching call.

Next Steps

Good preparation is about repetition with honest feedback. Use the Interview Q&A PDF document to learn the questions and the Interview Practice & Coaching chat to learn yourself — then walk in confident.
