Notification Preferences

Notification Preferences

preparAItor notifies you through two channels — email and in-app — and each channel has its own master switch plus three category toggles. A small set of critical security and billing messages is always delivered regardless of your settings.

Opening Notification Settings

Go to Settings and select the Notifications tab. The page is titled Notification Preferences ("Manage how you receive notifications about your account activity").

Shortcut: open the notification bell in the top navigation and click the gear icon (Notification settings) or the Manage Notification Preferences link at the bottom of the panel — both jump straight to this tab.

How the Toggles Are Organized

The tab shows two cards — Email Notifications and In-App Notifications. Each card has:

  • A master switch — Enable Email Notifications or Enable In-App Notifications — both marked with a Recommended badge.
  • Three category switches underneath: Transactional Updates, Account Reminders, and Marketing & Updates.

Turning a master switch off greys out and disables its three categories, silences the whole channel, and shows a warning banner with a Turn back on button. Turning off Transactional Updates or Account Reminders individually also shows an inline warning spelling out exactly what you'll miss — these are deliberate speed bumps, not bugs.

Next to every category name there's a small info icon. Hover it to see a What's included tooltip listing precisely which messages the toggle controls and which are always sent anyway.

The Three Categories

The categories mean the same thing on both channels, and email and in-app are controlled independently — for example, you can keep reminders in-app but not by email.

Transactional Updates

Results of actions you started:

  • Document is ready — sent when your generation completes
  • Document generation failed
  • Feedback submission confirmation

Keep this on. If you disable it, you won't be told when a generation you spent credits on finishes or fails — the app warns you about exactly this if you switch it off.

Account Reminders

Heads-ups about your account state:

  • Low-credit warning — fires when your remaining balance drops to 20% or less of your total credits (monthly pool plus purchased packages). It's sent once per drawdown, then re-arms when your credits reset or you top up.
  • Upcoming-payment reminder — before your subscription renews
  • One-time tier expiry warnings — 7 days and 24 hours before a one-time tier's access ends
  • Subscription canceled / downgraded confirmations

Marketing & Updates

New feature announcements, tips and best practices, promotional offers, the newsletter, and referral-program invitations. This is off by default — it's only on if you opted in at registration or enable it here. Leaving it off affects nothing important to your account.

The In-App Side

In-app notifications appear as toast messages while you work and collect in the notification bell in the navigation bar, which shows an unread-count badge. The panel has filter tabs — All, System, Generation, Billing, Security — plus Refresh and Mark all as read buttons.

Notifications are not transient: each item stays in the list until you act on it, with per-item Mark as read, Archive, and Delete actions.

Saving Your Changes

Flipping any switch makes a "You have unsaved changes" bar appear with Save and Discard buttons. Nothing takes effect until you hit Save — you'll see a "Changes saved successfully" confirmation. If you try to navigate away with unsaved edits, a dialog asks whether to Discard Changes or stay.

Critical Notifications (Always Sent)

For security and legal reasons, these are delivered by email and in-app no matter how your toggles are set:

  • Password resets and password-changed confirmations
  • Email verification
  • Payment receipts and payment failures
  • Grace-period warnings after a failed payment
  • Notice that a one-time tier has expired
  • Account deletion confirmation
  • System maintenance notices
  • Data-deletion warnings for generation history, tracker entries, and interview sessions

The Notifications tab shows this list in an info box at the bottom, and each category tooltip repeats which messages bypass the toggle.

What preparAItor Doesn't Send

  • Tracker follow-up emails — follow-up due dates you set in the Application Tracker show as badges on the entry ("Overdue!", "Due today"), but no reminder email is sent for them. Only the data-deletion warning before a tracker entry expires arrives by email.
  • Cloud sync failure emails — sync problems surface in the Cloud Sync column of your generation history, not in your inbox.
  • Digest emails — every notification is per-event. To receive less, turn off categories rather than waiting for a summary that doesn't exist.
  • Mobile push notifications — preparAItor is a web app; there is no native push.

Language

Emails and in-app notifications follow your Interface Language (Settings > Preferences) — English, German, French, or Italian.

Recommended Setup

  • Leave both master switches and Transactional Updates on, so you know the moment documents are ready or a generation fails.
  • Keep Account Reminders on — the low-credit and upcoming-payment warnings are the ones that prevent surprises.
  • Enable Marketing & Updates only if you want feature news and offers.
