Check Your CV-Job Match Before Applying

What Match Check Does

Match Check answers one question before you invest in an application: is this CV-job pairing worth it? For 15 credits, the AI extracts the posting's requirements, scores each one against what your CV explicitly shows, and reads the result into a verdict:

• Strong fit — ready to apply: your CV covers the core requirements as-is.
• Good potential — tailor first: a good fit, but your CV undersells it — several requirements are only weakly visible.
• Weak fit: important requirements appear to be missing. The card tells you which kind: a knockout (work permit, required license, a mandatory language level — a hard stop) or several core requirements (an honest judgement call you may overrule).

Every requirement is scored as match (explicitly shown), weak (plausibly implied but not shown), or gap (nothing supports it). The scoring is deliberately strict: it rates only what your CV shows, not what you know — a skill implied by a job title counts as weak, not a match.

Where to Find It

Open Apply AI and walk to Step 3: Review Information. Once a CV and a ready job are selected, the Match Check card appears with a short explainer and a Check match button (✨ 15). The check runs in a few seconds and renders a score wheel, the verdict, and match / weak / gap counts.

One thing to know: the check rates the saved job. If you edited job details in the wizard, save them first — the button reminds you.

Reading the Breakdown

Click Show full analysis for the detailed view:

• A short summary: overall fit, the first thing to fix, and whether to apply.
• The requirement list, sorted by decision relevance — core gaps and weak matches first. Knockout requirements carry their own tag.
• For matches and weak matches: where your CV shows it. For weak matches and gaps: one diagnostic sentence on what to surface or how to handle it.
• A closing note on which single core gap (at most one) is worth addressing in your cover letter — wish-list gaps are best answered with silence.

You can export the whole analysis as a branded PDF — the document renders in the posting's language, so a check against a German posting produces a German document you can file with your application notes.

The Loop: Check, Tailor, Re-Check

Match Check diagnoses; it never rewrites your CV. When the verdict is "tailor first", the Tailor with AI button (45 credits) takes you straight to the Tailor flow with the job preselected. After you apply or promote the tailored CV, come back and re-check: the card shows your improvement as a before/after coverage delta — for example CV match improved: 64% → 82%.

The percentage measures documented requirement coverage, not your odds of being hired — the note on the card, "Based only on what your CV explicitly shows", is the honest frame for every number on it.

What It Costs, and When

• A check costs 15 credits, charged only when it succeeds.
• The result stays saved with the job. Re-opening the wizard later shows it for free.
• Editing your CV or the job flips the result to Outdated — the old result stays visible, and re-checking (another 15) refreshes it. You are never re-charged automatically.
• Ratings are per CV-job pair: checking a second CV against the same job is an independent check, and switching CVs in the wizard switches the displayed result.

Tips

• Check before you generate. 15 credits before a 100-credit generation is cheap insurance against applying with the wrong CV — or to the wrong posting.
• A single core gap is not a rejection. The method deliberately lets one honest gap stand: address it confidently in the cover letter and apply anyway.
• Take knockout verdicts seriously. If a work permit or a mandatory language floor is genuinely missing, better targeting will do more for your response rate than any amount of tailoring.
